Lot #397A - Underhill Brass Conductor Lantern - Betts Patent
Underhill made All Brass Conductor
lantern with L. F. Betts 1865 patent. A very nice uncleaned brass frame with
"Made by S. B. Underhill, New York" clearly stamped on the base
and "L. F. Betts Patent Nov 21, 1865" clearly stamped by the vent
holes. It's an old frame with the bail mounted in the vent holes. The vent
holes are punched into a diamond pattern and not rows of circles. It is a
single piece frame with a pinch pot. The pot is tin and not brass. The fount
is glass with a brass collar. The burner is an old brass pick wick. The
globe is a molded extended base that fits very nicely. The globe is just 5
1/4" including the extended base. The globe has a 4 7/8" visible
area. Excellent uncleaned condition.
