Lot #337A - Brass "Dark" Lantern by T. Blickman, New York
Brass Marine "Dark" lantern.
Stands 12:" tall with a 4" tall globe. This lantern has a tube
that can slide up and locked in to cover the light. These were called
dark/blackout lanterns during World War One. The frame is marked "T.
BLICKMAN, NY". The Blickman turns out to be a very rare model
"dark" lantern. The vertical wires are doubled (like some C. T.
Ham models). There are odd copper wire wraps near the cage joints. I suspect
that these may have used as heat sinks when soldering took place. There are
no joint clips. See: http://www.darklanterns.com/dark.htm The tube slides up and down just fine and
it can be locked into the up or rested into the down position. The brass has
been polished to high shine. The globe has the standard 4 vertical ribs and
it has no damage at all. Excellent condition.
