Lot #95 - Nickel Plate Road - Number Board #774

 

mi27 Railroad Nickel Plate Road  Size 25" by 8" Condition Good + Nickel Plate Road (New York Chicago & St Louis Railroad) Locomotive #774 Number Board. This number board is made of 1/4" steel and has applied numbers that are bolted on. It is heavy. The center "7" has just one bolt holding it on. It measures 25" by 8". The applied numbers stand 4 3/4" tall. All corners are beveled. It has 4 large countersunk holes for mounting on the locomotive. The first "7" must have been repaired at some point. The number covers part of the mounting bolt hole. In addition to this number board we are happy to have an original Lima Hamilton Builder's Plate from this same locomotive. Built as a 2-8-4 "Berkshire" style for the NKP in 1949. This was just about the end of steam. The NKP ordered a few sisters to this locomotive and that was the end of NKP steam.  All of the plates and this number board are from the William B. Young estate. Bill stopped collecting hardware over 40 years ago. We are thrilled to have both this number board and the Builder's Plate.
