Glossary
- Check - a small peice of metal or paper with a unique number
- Duplicate - the check that was given to the passenger
- Emigrant - rare check used by "one-way" Western settlers
- Immigrant - same as Emigrant
- Insert - either a paper or metal check with "square" sides that fits into a Shell
- Interline Check - a check that would see service off of the home road
- Local - a check that would not see service off of the home road
- Narrow Guage - track width of less than 4' 8 1/2" (rare)
- Reversible Check - both sides of the check have similar, but opposite routing information
- Shell Check - a rectangular check that accepts a paper or metal Insert
- Tag - a Check
- Triplicate - a 3 check system
- Way Shell - usually a Shell, sometimes an Insert
