New Haven Railroad - Adams tall lantern with a red cast globe New Haven Railroad - Adams & Westlake "Adams" hybrid lantern with a red cast NYNH&HRR globe. This is a hybrid Adams frame. The top is all Adams while the base is a Reliable. This style of frame was an attempt by A&W to use up their older Adams tops and vertical cage assemblies on a newer base cup style. The frame base has the Reliable "Sunburst" bottom and that is a give-away of its origin. This frame has not been cleaned. It has some light rust/pitting. The globe is a decent Corning style red cast NYNH&HRR with no panel. Good condition.
China - Maine Central Railroad - "Kennebec" double egg cup Maine Central - small handled individual creamer. Stands 2 5/8" tall. Cute as a button. No damage to the handle at all. The logo is clear. There is some discoloration to the bottom where it was not glazed. The back surface has some skid mark rubbing that might polish out. A very nice piece, Very Good condition.
Framed Nickel Plate Road ALCO Builder's Locomotive Photograph Nickel Plate Road 4-6-4 Alco Builder's photograph - The frame measures 15 1/2" by 30". The locomotive number is 723 which was built in 1927 by Alco and was an NKP class L1-a class. The NKP only had 4 Alco Hudsons. The subsequent 4 4-6-4s were Limas in 1929. This print is nice and has a very minor old water stain on the bottom edge of the mat. The frame has a few dings but it is still in Very Good condition.
Fitchburg Railroad brass torch made by Lenk This brass Lenk torch stands 7" tall. It Has FITCHBURG RR stamped on the bottom edge. LENK is in raised letters on the base. The treaded top is attached by a brass chain. The brass is a nice dark color. Very Good condition.
Boston Revere Beach & Lynn Railroad - Brass Baggage Tag 1 1/2" by 2" double sided "strap check" which was used on the actual baggage. The destinations are Lynn and Crescent Beach. The BRB&L was a narrow gauge railroad that used ferry service to reach Boston proper. This tag has a later (1890s) John Robbins hallmark on one side. This is tag #124. Excellent condition.
Passes (12) Central Vermont 1892-1902 This is a group of 12 Central Vermont passes. It clearly shows the name change from Railroad to Railway in 1899. There were different issues with both names that year. (1) 1892 very ornate, blue, vignette Excellent, (2-8) 1893-1899 simple "Railroad" name all similar 1895 just has date on reverse, all at least Very Good, (9-12) 1899-1902 change in lettering style and all are "Railway" 1902 and 1899 are Fair, others Good.
1925 New Haven Railroad Athletic Trophy New Haven Railroad silver plated athletic trophy that stands 8 3/4" tall. This was from a "System Event" in 1925. Very nice engraving for hr 200 Yard - 1st Place. . The base shows a maker of International Silver with an additional Meriden Britannia marking. This piece has an original, unpolished silver patina. Excellent condition.

All decks have at least 52 cards - jokers and advertising cards may be present or may be missing.. Every card has a picture, "Salad" booklet is included, Very Good condition. |
New York Central RR - 20th Century limited paperweight This is a combination Alco and New York Central advertising paperweight. This "J" class streamlined locomotive is all original right down to the original green felt backing. It has slight dust in some recesses and no problems at all. It's heavy and measures about 10 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" tall. Excellent condition.
Passes (2) West Shore Railroad: 1885, 1894 This is a pair of passes with the different West Shore name forms: New York West Shore & Buffalo and West Shore Railroad. Both have rounded corners that look original. Very good condition.
| 12* | 1933 Pennsylvania Railroad Calendar - framed, partial pad Pennsylvania Railroad 1933 framed calendar "Spirit of America". Professionally framed in simple black wood with "glare free" 1980s style glass. It measures a standard 30" by 31". This calendar predates the 1935 issues that all have the tuscan red border. This image is two passenger trains passing, and has Grif Teller's name in the lower right margin. There is just the last calendar pad sheet for December of 1933. There are two minor tears on the bottom margin below the tear sheet. Good condition. |
China - Boston & Albany Railroad - "Berkshire" pattern footed compote Boston & Albany Railroad - 6 1/2" diameter footed compote. It measures 3 1/2" tall. "Berkshire" pattern. The logo and edge piping are in exceptionally strong condition. This pattern often shows weak color and wear. This is a fine example with an excellent logo. There is no backstamp which is standard for this compote. It is hard to find very clean pieces in this pattern. There are some smaller than normal, standard pimples in the food well. Excellent condition.
Passes (3) Trolley from New York (1) 1910 Auburn & Syracuse Electric Railroad - Good, (2) 1927 Auburn & Syracuse Electric Railroad - Good, (3) 1930 Auburn & Syracuse Electric Railroad - Good.
GTR cast fixed globe lantern Grand Trunk Railway cast fixed globe lantern - Nice oval panel version with more of a "C" than a "G" which is not uncommon. The tin frame is in exceptionally clean condition for an age over 150 years. The bail is mounted through the lid which usually indicates a pre- Civil War vintage. The metal shows signs of its original Japan patina. This looks like copper paint and it weathers to a peeling black paint look. A very nice example with no problems at all. Excellent condition.
Badge - Rochester & Syracuse Railroad Motorman #89 Rochester & Syracuse Railroad Motorman Badge. This is a metal badge that pre-dates the RS&E name. The maker is American Railway Supply. This is badge #89. The badge measures 2 7/8" by 1 7/8". There is very minor wear to the front. Very Good condition.
Framed Boston & Maine RR EMD "FT" Locomotive Photograph Boston & Maine RR - Framed FT #4200 EMD builder's print. This framed print measures about 18" by 28". The 4200 FT A-B and 4201 FT A-B 4 unit set was delivered in 1943. These were eventually traded in for GP-7s. The print has the standard blue END logo on the top and horsepower ratings on the bottom edge. The blue frame has some real scratches but a simple black paint job would bring this back to life. The frame has an industrial chain for hanging. It's heavy. Good condition.
Boston & Maine Railroad - Wax Sealer "Beebe River" New Hampshire From the Pemigewasset River Valley south of Campton and north of Plymouth, NH. A small place with a great name. 1 3/8" diameter brass head and a total height of 3 3/4". The Boston & Maine used a few different styles of sealers and they even used slightly different lettering. This one is "B AND M R. R.". Excellent condition.
Pennsylvania Railroad - 1912 huge color roll-up map Dated 1912 at the bottom. Measures 42" wide by 54" tall (large) with original wooden rollers on both the top and bottom. Has cloth ribbon to tie closed and 2 small brass rings for wall mounting. This is a colorful map mounted on canvas. It was a nice Pennsylvania System advertising piece that has a few sections: (1) the top has the Penna Lines keystone logo and railroad name spelled out (2) A map of the PRR from the East Coast to St. Louis (3) An entire map of the USA showing the PRR lines in the east (4) two maps of the world at the bottom. At close to 100 years old, this is a nice example of how extensive rail lines were in 1912. Good condition.
P. P. Stewart Agent's Brasstop lantern Unusual brasstop lantern is similar to Steam Gauge examples in early advertising. The basic frame is a box with 3 glass sides. There is a pin/hinge door similar to early Peter Gray mechanisms. The back plate is tin with an intact reflector. The original pot and burner are present. This lamp has a handle mounted on the back plate. There are signs of old Japan finish that look like black paint. The brasstop and bail are very nice. The kicker is that the name "P. P. STEWART" is cut in fancy Old English lettering in the front glass panel. This lantern showed up at Brimfield over 20 years ago and it came from Chester, Vermont. I am assuming it's from a Station Agent or possibly Police or Watchman. Clearly the engraved name and brasstop were not just utility in cost or design. There is a touch of solder repair to the top plate stop hinges. Very Good condition.
Maine Central diesel oil painting Maine Central Railroad - Oil Painting of diesels in the White Mountains. The frame on this painting measures 27 1/2" by 21". The lead unit is #255 which was a GP-38 made by EMD in 1966. The scene is a multi-diesel lash up in the White Mountains. The lead locomotive has pretty decent detail. The subsequent units and scenery are somewhat muted. There is no artist and the consignor knows that this was painted in Glenview, Illinois. This painting has been professionally framed. Excellent condition.
Delaware & Hudson Co. - A&W bellbottom, cast "the D&H" logo globe Delaware & Hudson Co. marked Adams & Westlake Bellbottom lantern. The frame is a 1909 last patent with a double wire guard. The base is a standard Reliable style bell with drop in pot. The lid has the globe retaining spring with two soft metal tabs wrapped around the deflector plate. What is pretty interesting is that the pot is the last style used on Reliables, with a twisted wire adjuster, and it also has a "stove top" plate to help secure the Corning style globe. The frame was painted silver. I don't know why, because the metal looks real good where you can see it. The globe has a very nice "the D&H" script logo. It is a great casting and really stands out. The globe has some imperfections from manufacturing that are nice. Very Good condition.
Bangor & Aroostook 100 year collector plate This 10 1/2" diameter plate was issued in 1991 as a 100 year anniversary commemorative of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. This is #12 of a 200 limited edition. It is in its original box with an authenticity certificate. There is an ink inscription on the cover of the box explaining what the plate is. It has 2 steam locomotives and 2 diesels with dates for each one. New Condition.
Passes (2) Woodstock Railway - Vermont This is a pair of Woodstock Railroad passes. (1) 1919 - #12 President of the B&SR in Maine - Excellent, (2) 1931 - #5 to B&M President E. S. French and includes "Party" - Very Good.
China - Missouri Pacific "State Flowers" plate This is a Missouri Pacific "State Flowers" pattern plate with a 10 1/2" diameter. The plate has a passenger train headed by a steam locomotive in the center and the border has the state flower of every state that the MoPac went through. The companion MoPac "diesel" plate is the cover picture of one of the two china reference books. It's easy to see why, it's a real looker. There is one slight scratch in the inner pinstripe border. It's minor. This plate has the OPCo (Syracuse china marking) on the reverse. Very Good condition.
| 26* | Framed 1903 New Haven Conductors Photo 1903 photograph of Western Division Conductors of the New York New Haven & Hartford Railroad. The outer frame measures 25" by 29". The viewable mat area measures 15 1/2" by 20". The photo measures 10 1/2" by 13 1/2". This is a large group of conductors. The lower left indicates that this is from 1903 and the lower right says that it is Western Division of the NYNH&H RR. The frame is earlier than the photo and is constructed of different wooden components. There is some buckling to one vertical frame component. Very Good condition. |
Baltimore & Ohio 4 lens Handlan Marker Lamp, restored Baltimore & Ohio Railroad - 4 lens caboose marker. This Handlan lamp has 3 green and one red lens. The B&O RR marking is on a standard applied tag. This lamp has been nicely restored and comes complete with its mounting bracket (aluminum) and a correct factory installed electrified pot. This is a later style lamp. The interior of the base has the fluted edge which seems pretty standard on the factory installed electrified jobs. Nice restoration with semi-gloss black paint. Complete, and the consignor says that the bulb even works. Excellent condition.
Slide collection - 130 Railfan Originals in carousel All of the slides in this auction are from one collection. The collection consists of Carousels of Original Railfan taken images and metal trays with commercial slide issues. All of these slides are "unpicked." This group is a Carousel of 139 in a 140 capacity holder. All are identified: Location, Locomotive, Train ID. This group seems to all date from 1977-1978 and all seem to be from the Boston North Shore. Lots of Boston & Maine, some MBTA and others. Very Good condition.
Adirondack Mountains Brass Baggage Tag - Loon Lake 1 3/8" by 1 5/8" single-sided brass baggage tag for Loon Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. This trip used the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad, Delaware & Hudson Canal Co. and Chateaugay Railroads. The Chateaugay was a narrow gauge line. This is tag #381 and is blank on the reverse side. Excellent condition.
Key - Boston & Lowell Railroad - Bohannan Boston & Lowell Railroad - Bohannan made Switch key. The B&L ended up in the Boston & Maine in 1889. This is a standard switch bit for the B&L. There is an "S" for switch on the reverse side and a standard Bohannan hallmark. The barrel has a nice single ring. This is a hefty Bohannan key. Excellent condition.
Pass - 1864 Rutland & Washington / Troy & Rutland Railroad This pass has a Jay Gould Presidential signature. This line is a Delaware & Hudson Railroad predecessor and not a Rutland predecessor. Excellent condition.
Boston Concord & Montreal - Brasstop Bellbottom lantern Boston Concord & Montreal Railroad - Brasstop Bellbottom lantern. This is probably a Kelly product. One friend calls these Bett's but I think he was a patent holder and not a manufacturer. The metal has been nicely cleaned. The BC&M went under in 1889. The frame is a single piece style with a pinch-pot. The pinch-pot is all tin and this might be a replacement to a glass font original. The Boston Concord & Montreal removable globe lanterns do not come with marked globes so you don't have to chase to the end of the earth to make this lantern 100% original. The globe is an unmarked clear extended base model. This lantern displays very well and is in Very Good condition.
China - New Haven Railroad "Platinum Blue" Cup & Saucer set This is a large "squat" Platinum blue cup on a standard size saucer with a diameter of 6 1/4". The cup was made by Buffalo and the saucer was made by Scammell's. Scammell's used both white and black decals on the Platinum Blue china and this saucer has the hard to see white decal. In person it reads fine but a camera has trouble picking it up. The color mismatch between the two manufacturers is not bad. There is a difference but it definitely passes the laugh test. This is not a common New Haven set. The cup is very clean, the saucer has one small manufacturing flaw on the top that is obviously not damage. Very Good condition.
China - Maine Central Railroad - "Bangor" pattern 11 1/2" platter Maine Central Railroad - 11 1/2" by 8" platter, "Bangor" pattern, standard ML China maker and Mitchell Woodbury supplier backstamp. This platter has the typical hard wear found on northern New England china. There are some small glaze flaws in the food well, this is not uncommon on MEC and B&M earlier patterns. There is some age spotting on the edge. Good condition.
Passes (4) Montpelier & Wells River Railroad This is a group of 4 passes from the Montpelier & Wells River Railroad in Vermont. 2 are older cardstocks and 2 are more modern linen issues. (1) 1888 fancy - Very Good, (2) 1911 - Excellent, (3) 1927 #1 issued to B&M President, Very Good, (4) 1943-44 - Very Good.
Keys & Locks - Pennsylvania & Long Island This is a group of 2 locks and 2 keys. The group consists of: (#1) Pennsylvania RR - Knobby style key - Serial number of "H 3030" on reverse - Very Good (#2) LIRR (PRR / PC bit) Serial number of Z 2830 on reverse - Newish (#3) PRR large "SD" lock made by Corbin serial of "5LA" on reverse - Very Good (#4) PRR steel F&S switch lock with "S" and fancy brass dust cover - takes knobby style bit in this lot, very nice markings - Very Good.
| 37* | New York Central - Chicago Hump Yard - framed photograph This is an unusual photograph with a nice hand done caption about Automatic Car Retarders at the Gibson Yard in Chicago. The frame measures 24 1/2" by 21". The print could be removed for a better interior cleaning. There is some old water damage to the base edge of the matt. Good condition. |
Aladdin "swinging" RPO, Baggage, Caboose Lamp Complete "sprung" lamp by Aladdin. The chimney even has the Aladdin name etched near the top. The green shade is perfect. The fuel pot can be removed by turning two lock screws on the ring that surrounds it. The wick raiser works fine. There are no mounting screws but outside of that you are in business to install this lamp in a Caboose, RPO or baggage car. There is minor staining around the fill hole for the fuel tank. I think a solvent would remove it. Excellent condition just a little dust.
China - Milwaukee Road "Traveler" bowl Full Back Stamp 6 1/4" diameter Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific bowl with a slight rim. "Traveler" pattern with the full back stamp. No use, one tiny pimple in the food well. Excellent condition.
| 40* | Framed Boston & Lowell RR 4-6-0 "Monarch" Manchester Loco Co Locomotive Photograph Boston & Lowell RR - framed 4-6-0 Manchester Locomotive Co locomotive photograph "Monarch". The frame measures 17" by 21". This print has a nice oak frame and the Manchester printing stands out. Locomotives with names rather than numbers was an old tradition in the 1800s. The faint #81 on the headlight indicates that this was built in 1884 and was later renumbered as 1914 in the massive B&M 1911 renumbering system. This locomotive was scrapped in 1916. The print is very good, the frame is excellent. |
Passes (6) Central Vermont 1874-1879 This is a group of 6 sequential Central Vermont passes. It includes: (1) 1874 Excellent, (2) 1875 Good with glue back, (3) 1876 Very Good, (4) 1877 Very Good, (5) 1878 with St. Albans watermark Excellent, (6) 1879 trimmed corners, Vignette and glue to reverse.
Pennsylvania Railroad - Clear Cast "Mellon" Pennsylvania Railroad globe This is a standard "tall" globe and measures 5 3/8" tall, 3 1/4" base diameter, 2 1/2" top diameter. It has a Corning "Cnx" logo on the back at the top. The PENNSYLVANIA LINES casting in fine. There are a few air bubbles and slight age yellowing. If you aren't sure this will fit your lantern frame, please just ask with your make/model names and we'll let you know. Very Good condition.
Passes (3) old passes 1861-1866 (1) 1861 Saratoga & Whitehall Railroad - issued March 1, thin paper, Excellent, (2) 1866 Northern of New Hampshire measures 3 1/8" by 1 3/4", colorful, Good, (3) 1866 New York Central Railroad - Very Good.
China - Southern Railway "Peach Blossom" dinner plate "Southern Serves the South" is the logo on this "Peach Blossom" pattern dinner plate. It is 9" diameter and was made by Buffalo china. There is definite knife wear to the front but it's a dinner plate. Good condition.
Erie Railroad - Reliable Lantern cast globe & twist off pot This is a very unusual Adlake Reliable frame with a twist off pot. This is an Erie Railroad marked frame with an additional control number of "5968" stamped in the small lid panel. The base is a twist-off Adams & Westlake pot. This is very strange. The metal on the frame is exceptionally clean. Very nice original tin all around. What is perhaps stranger than the twist-off pot is that the base has a "platform" so that a Corning style globe is the correct type of globe to use. The globe is a nice cast "ERRCo" in an oval panel. It's a very nice casting. This lantern is really different. Excellent condition.
Slide Collection - 250 Commercial slides in metal storage box All of the slides in this auction are from one collection. The collection consists of Carousels of Original Railfan taken images and metal trays with commercial slide issues. All of these slides are "unpicked." This group is a metal tray that normally holds 150 slides but our previous owner doubled them up so there are +/- 250 "Curt Teich Scenic Slides" issues that have many cardstock dividers. In addition to the dividers the prior owner was good enough to provide a "written map" or table of contents on a piece of paper that is included. Inspect this image to see exactly what should be in the box. No guarantees, but nobody has messed with this box either. Very Good condition.
| 47* | Framed 1873 Delaware & Hudson Canal Co. Employee Timetable Double sides of glass reveal the entire detail of this Dec 29, 1873 Employee Timetable #51. The frame measures 18" by 20 1/2". The front has the schedules for Albany - Hydeville, Eagle Bridge - Rutland, Schenectady, Albany and Glens Falls. All trains are included (passenger, freight). The reverse side has the Special Rules that employees must follow. This is over 136 years old. Clever framing shows it all. There is one vertical stain on the reverse that is typical of an employee timetable. Good condition. |
Badge - Central Vermont Railway - Railroad Police Central Vermont Railway - Railroad Police badge - This is a nickel plated pin-back breast badge that is 2 1/2" wide and 1 5/8" tall. The maker is S. H. Reese, New York. The Reese hallmark is tiny. With CVRY INC as the name this is a later badge after the 1930s flood. There are some scratches but still Very Good condition.
China - Boston & Maine Railroad - "Bar Harbor" pattern oval dish Boston & Maine Railroad - Small 6" by 4 3/4" by 1 1/4" tall oval platter in the "Bar Harbor" pattern. Very nice logo area with minimal wear in the food well. Made by standard ML China with Mitchell Woodbury supplier backstamp. Way above average for Bar Harbor. Very Good condition.
Maine Central Railroad 1902 depot timetable This is a depot timetable and would have been mounted in a frame so passengers could see the whole picture of connections and schedules at a glance. Long gone in the USA but still used in Switzerland to this day. This schedule is dated Oct 13, 1902. It has the Maine Central pinecone logo in the upper left corner. It has complete schedules for all Maine destinations and more connections to through destinations: Halifax, Boston, Chicago, etc. It measures 19 1/2" by 29". This timetable is in shrink wrap on a foam core backing board, Very Good condition.

Handlan Semaphore Lamp made by Handlan, restored Handlan single clear lens Semaphore lamp. Has complete pot & burner, complete and nice restored condition. The top hinge works fine but the lower lid latch needs some coaxing to open it up. Has standard slide mount in rear. This lamp was restored and has nice semi-gloss black paint. It got a few scratches in transit but it's in excellent restored condition.
| 53* | Framed NYC 2-8-0 ALCO Builder's photograph New York Central & Hudson River RR - Framed ALCO builder's photograph #2498. This larger framed piece measures 34" by 22". This Consolidation style loco (2-8-0) was designed for freight service and it carries the older "Hudson River" name so this locomotive is pre 1914. The frame is heavy dark oak with its original backing boards. The glass was replaced with nice clean plastic which keeps the weight down and makes this a less fragile piece. The plastic could always be replaced. Excellent condition. |
China - Rock Island "El Reno" Divided Dinner Plate Chicago Rock Island & Pacific - large divided dinner plate in the "El Reno" pattern - 11 1/2" in diameter, heavy with NO signs of stacking wear which is unusual in divided dinner plates. It has the standard Albert Pick supplier backstamp. There is no food well wear or age spots on the rim. There is one tiny glaze flaw from the manufacturing process. This is a hard to find pattern and a beautiful example. Excellent condition.
Pass - 1886 Columbus Hocking Valley & Toledo Railway 1886 Annual Pass from the Columbus Hocking Valley and Toledo Railway. Standard 4" by 2 1/2" size and printed on cardstock. The name didn’t change to Hocking Valley until 1899. This pass has very nice crisp corners. Excellent condition.

Bangor & Aroostook Railroad - Wax Sealer "B&A over FC over Agent" for Foxcroft, Maine? This is an oval head on a toad stool metal handle. It is 2 1/2" tall and is very heavy for its size. This toad stool design is later so it's got to be Bangor & Aroostook and not Boston & Albany. There is rubbing to the handle edge where it rests on a table. Very Good condition.
Hat - Waterville Fairfield & Oakland Street Railway Conductor (Maine) Complete hat and badge from the Waterville Fairfield & Oakland Street Railway in Maine. This is a metal badge with a pronounced dome and ornate lettering. The occupation is Conductor and like most Trolley badges this one has a number - which is #116. | 60 | China - Maine Central Railroad - "Kennebec" pattern platter Maine Central - oval platter that is 8 1/4" by 5 1/4". The top logo is clear. | 63 | Boston Lowell & Nashua Brady's patent brasstop Bellbottom lantern Boston Lowell & Nashua Brady patent brasstop Bellbottom lantern. This later version Brady has a pinchpot and there is an 1868 patent on the side of the base. The top is nicely stamped BL&N RR in an arc. The frame has been cleaned and it's in very good shape. The globe is a correct Brady with the cast "B" but it does have a crack coming down from the top edge. This style of globe is hard to find. The pinch-pot is very clean and has the correct ring of small holes for proper air intake. This lantern still displays very well. Very Good condition.
Chateaugay Railroad - Narrow Gauge baggage tag 1 7/8" diameter single-sided "Special" refers to a bag that did leave the home road so this tag was used on something leaving the Chateaugay. Nice dark brown patina. Very Good condition.

Round Bottom glass - Boston & Maine RR Boston & Maine round bottom 4" tall passenger car drinking glass. Why are they round? The idea was to discourage theft. This style of glass pre-dates sanitary codes that were introduced in 1907 and after WWI. The railroad name is in cast lettering across the bottom on the outside of the glass. You see the name correctly as you look into the glass. The B&M version has nine flutes that come 1/2 way up the sides. Excellent condition.
| 74* | Railway Express Agency - 6 foot Porcelain Sign Railway Express Agency 6' by 1' porcelain sign. This sign has a beveled edge and 6 mounting holes. | 80 | Eastern RR - Yankee Lantern Brasstop Bellbottom Eastern Railroad Yankee Lantern brasstop Bellbotton May 30, 1871 patent on frame and globe. This lantern has a unique design that allows the globe to be replaced by squeaking the globe out of two circular springs. It's an awful design and few of these lanterns have survived. Both the frame (stamped in lid) and the globe (base area) have raised lettering showing the 1871 patent. One unusual thing about this frame is that it's the only one I have ever seen that was not cleaned and polished. It has original tarnish on the brasstop. This lantern comes apart easier than others I have had. The ERR cut letting in the globe is a standard very wide design that all of the Yankees have. There is a more squat globe design that looks more like a Kelly but this globe looks more like plastered fixed globes of the 1871 era. There are lots of dings in the bell. I know they could be tapped out. Very Good condition. |
Pass - 1878 St. Louis & Southeastern Railway 1878 St. Louis and Southeastern Railway annual pass. Standard 4" by 2 1/2" size, printed on cardstock. Crisp corners, ornate printing with a "bank note" finish to the reverse which does not have conditions. One year after this pass was issued this line was absorbed into the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. One miniscule ink inscription on the reverse. Very Good condition.
Atlantic & St Lawrence RR - Cast Fixed Globe Lantern New England Glass Co Atlantic & Saint Lawrence Railroad - Cast fixed globe lantern. Made by New England Glass Co. Engine style cup base. Has original Japan finish showing tones of copper on the top. The base shows more wear and the font was removed for electrification at some point. The A&StL existed until the Grand Trunk took them over in 1853. The A&StL was the line from Portland, Maine to Montreal, Quebec. The strike on the cast globe is nice. It's better than average, some are very weak. There is a lot of swirling to the glass. It would be possible to restore the base. Whoever did the original electrification didn't mess with the base too much so a new font could be soldered in. There is no damage other than the electrification to the tin base. The base has nice 5 point rounded star intake holes. The top has the standard early hashed dagger used by the New England Glass Company. Very Good/Fair condition.
Silver - SOO Line - Side marked Coffee pot This "SOO LINE" side logo coffee pot was made by Reed & Barton. It has a 1 Pint marking on the reverse but no date code symbol. It measures 7 1/2" stem to stern, 4 1/4" from the base to the top of the finial. The hinge is fine. There are no dents or damage. It could probably be shined up a little better. Excellent condition.
Pass - 1905 Canada Atlantic Railway This pass has a super locomotive vignette. According to Jim McFarlane's notes the CAR was acquired by the Grand Trunk in 1905. This is a looker. Very Good condition.

It is a heavy piece in this frame. Good condition. |

Key - Eastern Railroad (Massachusetts) - tapered barrel Eastern Railroad - This line merged into the Boston & Maine in 1885. This is the standard Eastern switch bit. There is no maker. | 88 | 1922 Bridgton & Saco River RR Book of payroll records 1922 Bridgton & Saco River Railroad Payroll Record Book - Maine narrow gauge history. This is a fat hardbound book showing the payroll records for employees of the B&SR. The book registers everyone in Depot, Train, Engine Service, etc. For each location with employees a weekly total of either days or hours worked is computed and then each employee signs next to his amount. The outside binding measures 13" by 9 1/2". Each sheet measures 11" by 8 1/2". There are 2 1/2 inches of sheets (that's a lot). Currently in shrink wrap so pictures are done on an angle. Nice color, Good condition.
Boston & Worcester RR - Fixed Globe lantern New England Glass Co Boston & Worcester Railroad - Fixed globe lantern. Made by the New England Glass Company. This frame has a bulbous NEGCo style globe. The globe has applied flanges to both the top and bottom. The lettering is standard line, wheel cut letting of B&WRR. The top has the standard hashed dagger vents and a wire bail. The base is the 1854 patent with a home style base. The bell has a finger handle found on home lamps. The font is also oversized. The burner is a nice double whale oil pick wick. The intake holes are standard 5 point rounded stars. The frame has lots of rust and pitting. The bail has scratched the globe on both sides from swinging down and bumping up against the glass. The good news is that this is a good sign that this lantern was never tinkered with. The glass on the globe shows very nice swirling and flow lines. The globe was free blown (not molded). Because of the rust it's just Fair condition.
New Haven RR Thompson Bellbottom Lantern "Hartford Division" with cast globe New York New Haven & Hartford RR - Thompson "Hartford Division" marked lantern with a NYNH&HRR Thompson cast globe. This is a nice example of the Thompson with a Divisional mark. There is a CV with a divisional mark in this same auction. This frame has the later large diameter 6 1/2" style bell. The earlier frames have a 5 1/2" diameter bell. The lid is nicely stamped with the NYNH&HRR marking. The very top has the HARTFORD DIVISION marking. This lantern was cleaned with no restoration work required at all. The pinch pot has the correct spring tabs under the pinch tabs. The glass font is original and the Calendar (bee hive) burner comes on freshly found Thompson's. This version of the top does not come with a brass ferrule for the set screw. This is not uncommon - it's a 50:50 on the brass ferrule being present. The globe is a correct Thompson "tear drop" with a very strong NYNH&HRR casting in a rectangular panel. This is a nice lantern and not common with this marking in this condition. Excellent condition.
China - Maine Central Railroad - "Pinecone" pattern 10" platter Maine Central Railroad - 10 1/4" platter in the "Pinecone" pattern, standard ML China maker and Mitchell Woodbury supplier backstamp. This platter has the typical hard wear found on northern New England china. There are some small glaze flaws in the food well, this is not uncommon on MEC and B&M earlier patterns. There is some age spotting on the edge. Fair/Good condition.
Key - Northern Railroad (New Hampshire) tapered barrel Northern Railroad of New Hampshire - Switch Key made by Sherburne, Boston. This is a tapered barrel key with lots of wear and now has a very dark brown patina. This key has not been cleaned. There is an "S" for switch at 6:00. This is believed to be the erlier of the 2 known Northern switch bits. Good condition.
Passes (4) New London Northern: 1885-1899 A group of 4 New London Northern passes from 1885-1899. The NLN was a Central Vermont predecessor that operated in Connecticut and Massachusetts. (1) 1885 Fair glue back, (2) 1896 Very Good, (3) 1898 Very Good, (4) 1899 Very Good.

They now use water from any state and package it with the name of the original. This bottle is embossed with ONE HALF GALLON on the top edge and then the labels were painted on. The back has a full list of all minerals found in the original spring water. A nice advertising piece. Good condition. |
Central Vermont Thompson patent Bellbottom lantern Central Vermont "Central Division" Thompson patent Bellbottom lantern. One nice thing about this lantern is that the original owner scratched his initials "CLS" into the globe and glass pot. The top has a 20 year old repair. The original ferrule mount hole rotted out. A friend replaced it, but it is not perfectly centered. It's better than a gaping hole. The divisional marking is a real plus. This is a complete original lantern. There is some pitting and a better cleaning is in order. There is an unusual offset second set of intake holes. This frame comes with the smaller 5 1/2" diameter bell so it's an older frame. Good condition.
Framed Oil painting by Andrew Harmantas - GG-1 in Washington DC Andrew Harmantas is well known for his work on book and magazine covers. This painting is of a Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 on Track 16 at Washington DC. Some of Harmantas's work is photo-realistic, this work has more "loose" style. The artisit explains this in an email that is on the back of the painting. The frame measures 24 x 12 and partially obscures the date which follows the artist's name. In the background is a Baltimore & Ohio passenger train in the standard blue and silver scheme. For further information on this artist please see: www.highlandsstationllc.com/Harmantas.htm The frame is a brushed modern metal. Excellent/New condition.

Fitchburg RR NEG Triple Marked Brasstop Bellbottom lantern Fitchburg Railroad Triple marked New England Glass Brasstop Bellbottom lantern. One of only a few known to exist. This lantern has the correct 2 3/4" diameter top globe with both FRR and LOCO DEPT cast on opposing sides. The frame has FRR stamped on both the lid and the removable bell. The frame has the standard flat brass dome (not the fancy dome). This lantern is complete with its smoke reflector and all original brass bail wire. The base has the standard 5 point rounded star intake holes. The bell is the correct 1868 patent model with a glass font and tin side wall that comes almost to the top of the font. The 1854 model fonts show a lot more glass side wall. That is what differentiates the 1868 form the 1854 bells. The burner is a tall Calendar (bee hive) which is one of 3 known burners to come on a Thompson. There is some light pitting but the frame has been cleaned. The globe has a 1" crack that comes down one side seam. It's hard to see. This is not a common lantern. It is all original with no tinkering/restoration work. Good condition.
Poster - Barn/circus size WWII Tickets Unusual two piece Boston & Maine Railroad "barn size" poster. Each half measures 29 1/2" wide by 45" tall. There is a border for a slight overlap in the pasting operation. Advertises WWII ticket supply as limited and the "Early Bird" gets the ticket. This poster was originally folded and shows ghosting of color on the folded panels beneath the bird. Red, white and blue patriotic colors, but the Early Bird is quite a bird. There is a 1 inch border down the center so that the two pieces coould be glued together with an over-lap. This is a large piece and by design it was to be pasted on a large surface with an ephemeral life span. This poster is currently in cardboard shrink wrap. Please excuse the shadows in the pics. Because of its size, this piece had to be photographed outside. Please excuse the grass and weeds at the base. Have never seen another like it. Very Good condition .
Bridgton & Saco River Railroad - Brass Baggage Tag 1 1/2" by 2" for use on the Boston & Maine. This was an interline tag for a destination some place on the B&M. It has a nice Robbins hallmark on one side and opposite routing on the reverse side. This is a "strap check" meaning it was used on the actual baggage. This tag has the misspelled Bridgeton name. It is #177. It includes the Portland & Ogdensburg so it predates the Maine Central takeover of the P&O in 1888. Excellent condition.
China - Erie Railroad - "Susquehanna" pattern rectangular platter Heavy Erie Railroad Susquehanna pattern platter. 11 1/4" by 7 3/4" rectangular platter. The lock shackle has been chewed up to some extent. There are some hammer marks on the lock face plate. The key shows nice wear and has the NPRR marking. With this logo and marking it pre-dates the 1917 Slaymaker & Fraim merger into the F&S Hardware CO. This is a nice double marked pair, Good condition.
Key - Boston & Lowell White Mountain Division - tapered barrel This key dates from the time when the Boston & Lowell controlled the Boston Concord & Montreal. Of course the Concord sat right between these two operations. Politics, antitrust… some things never change. The bit on this key is the standard Boston Concord & Montreal switch which comes straight down from the tip of the barrel. Sherburne made this tapered barrel key. It is a little dark in color and is very nice. A great marking and a real piece of history. Excellent condition.
Santa Fe Railroad - Builder's Photo 0-6-0 locomotive Early Santa Fe Hinkley made builder's photograph, framed. A. H. Folsom, Roxbury was the Boston photographer. | 120 | Badge - Bangor & Aroostook Railroad Assistant Agent Earlier style "notch top" BAR badge for an Assistant Agent. | 121 | Pass - 1879 Illinois & St. Louis Railroad 1879 Illinois & St. Louis Railroad annual pass. Standard 4" by 2 1/2" size, printed on cardstock. I think the technical name for this road was the "Illinois & St. Louis Railroad & Coal Company." I think this road ended up as a Southern Railway gateway to the northern cities. There is a miniscule ink inscription on the back. This is normal from older pass collections. Nice crisp corners. Very Good condition.

It has information (photos, scale drawings, diagrams) of everything related to freight and passenger car construction up to 1943. The binding is loose. This is typical in a reference like this. It is complete with no major damage other than the binding. Fair condition. |
| 124* | Framed Portland & Ogdensburg RR Portland Co Locomotive Photograph Portland & Ogdensburg RR - Framed "Chocorua" locomotive print. Built by the Portland Company the Chocorua was a 2-6-0 "mogul" style locomotive. The frame measures 21" by 27" and the frame is ornate, beveled oak with a black inner border. The Portland Company built this loco and it carried #13 on the P&O roster. The Portland & Ogdensburg became the Maine Central line that ran through the White Mountains. This loco was built in Sept of 1884 and was scrapped by the Maine Central in 1909. There is some old water damage to the mat but this is still a very nice framed piece and it is not common. Good condition. |
Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad - Brass Baggage Tag All spelled out - This tag was nickel plated and the plating has worn through in several places. It was made by American Railway Supply Co., NY. This is #186. The NCNG was a California based railroad in the Sierra Mountains, not Nevada. Very Good condition.
Boston & Albany Porter Brasstop Bellbottom lantern red globe Boston & Albany Railroad - Porter Brasstop Bellbottom lantern. Correct red Porter globe. This example has the B&A stamped into the brasstop and not stamped in the lid. The versions stamped in the lid are typically weaker in strike and this brass cap stamped model proves that. There is a standard oddball Porter lid latch mechanism. I can read '67 '69 and maybe a '71 patent dates on the lid. The red globe is flashed and has the distinctive "PORTER" in raised lettering near the top. There are a couple of flakes off of the red flashing on the top rim. The pot is really odd, it has Dressel No6 stamped in the bottom. There are rot pin holes in the bottom of the pot. Note the odd brass wing clips on the pot. The tin has been cleaned and this one is shelf ready. This must be Boston & Albany, the Bangor & Aroostook came much later - 1890s. Very Good condition.

Hat - Penn Central Assistant Conductor Penn Central Assistant Conductor hat and badge. The Penn Central only had about 7 occupations made for this style of hat. This occupation is abbreviated to ASS'T CONDUCTOR. This line was short lived, starting in 1968 and became Conrail passenger service in 1976. The badge is a standard PC "noodle" on a pebble finish with jeweler's enamel to the PC. The hat has some moth holes. The hat size is 7 1/4. Good condition.
Framed Ann Arbor ALCO Builder's Photo Diesel Locomotive Photograph Ann Arbor Railroad - Framed Alco FA-2 builder's photograph - # 52, 52A was a pair of Alco FA-2 diesels that were delivered on Dec 9, 1950. Both 52 and 52A were traded back to EMD in the 1960s. The print is in excellent condition with its original Alco mat. The frame has some scratches in the wood. There is nice backing paper on the reverse side. This is an unusual print.
Silver - Boston & Maine RR 11 oz creamer "Minuteman" This is not the typical B&M silver piece. Note that this is in the undocumented "Minuteman" pattern. This is not in Maffett's reference book, "Silver Banquet" or ever had any publication describe how rare it is. There are four pieces known to exist. One is in a museum. The Minuteman logo has the normal name on top and "MINUTE MAN SERVICE" underneath. This was made by Reed & Barton and I would guess that it dates to the same time as the Minuteman china pattern (late 1920s - mid 1930s). There is one tiny ding on one side. The interior has some gunk. It displays great. If you've noticed, I don't tend to go over-board saying everything is rare rare rare but this piece deserves attention. Very Good condition.
Boston & Maine Star Headlight lantern with Extended base fancy cast globe Boston & Maine Railroad - Star Headlight Tall globe lantern with a fancy, extended base, cast globe. This is a very unusual maker for a tall B&M lantern. Not many star wire bottoms exist for this road. The frame is an earlier tintop with the flat base twist-off pot assembly. The top has the odd double brass rivet lid latch retaining guide. The B&M RR stamped lettering is the standard Star sprawled out lettering. The frame has some pitting and has been cleaned. The pot has a correct short shaft brass burner. The globe is a very nice fancy lettering B&MRR in a rectangular panel with a nice extended base. The globe is very heavy. Very Good condition.
China - New Haven Railroad "Indian Tree" Dinner Plate This 9" diameter New Haven marked "Indian Tree" dinner plate was made by Syracuse. It has a date code of "2-H". It has a great backstamp. The dinner plate in the New Haven "Indian Tree" is often much more worn than this piece. Dinner plates are collectible and an OPCo made piece this early is a good find. Very Good condition with the lightest of wear. Excellent condition.
Pass - 1898 Rutland Railroad This pass has what looks like a Presidential signature. I can't make out the name. The pass has a fine mountain scene as its background. This pass was issued to the president of the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. Very good condition.
Badge - Bangor & Aroostook Railroad - Conductor 3 line Bangor & Aroostook with 3 lines. Nickel plated with a beveled edge. The full road name and occupation are spelled out. The back has some gunk from being either glued to a mounting board or something else. The front has nice shine and enamel with minor scratches. Very Good condition.
Lock - Grand Trunk Railway Grand Trunk Railway brass lock - has GTR stamped in strong lettering. Dust cover is sprung. Takes a "9" shaped key, no maker - Very Good.
China - Maine Central Railroad - "Pinecone" pattern 14" platter Maine Central Railroad - 14" platter in the "Pinecone" pattern, standard ML China maker and Mitchell Woodbury supplier backstamp. This platter has the typical hard wear found on northern New England china. It's big, it's heavy. There are age spots on the rim and the base has dark discoloration where it is not glazed. Lots of hard wear in the food well. No chips or cracks. Fair condition.
| 138* | Ted Xaras 1982 Framed print of Trains in Chicago Framed Theodore Xaras color print of a Chicago train scene. Ted is a well known artist (and very decent guy). This framed print measures 26" by 21" and was professionally framed with backing paper. The color is excellent in this scene. There are two passenger trains. One is a NYC crack limited the other is a small local passenger run. Excellent condition. |
W&N RR Brasstop Bellbottom lantern blue globe W&N RR believed to be Worcester & Nashua because of the 6" globe required. The frame was nickel plated at some point. The plating always wears off the tin but stays on the brasstop. The tin has been cleaned. The globe is an unmarked blue 6" with the required extended base. The pot needs a brass collar and burner (see me after the auction to help you complete this one). I should have the required parts. This lantern displays very well. Very good condition.
Silverton Railroad - Colorado Narrow Gauge - Brass Baggage Tag Made by Wilcox in Chicago. This tag was dug. It is one of a hoard that was discovered and then sold 12-20 years ago by the Knous's. Some guy found a pile of these and Bill and Sue sold them at a flat rate to collectors. They all sold! Colorado narrow gauge hardware can be hard to find. The Silverton had a very interesting history. You can still ride there from Durango on the 3' gauge line. Condition is just fair. It was dug but it is real.
Pass - 1882 Bennington & Rutland Railway This is a Vermont road that is a Rutland Railroad predecessor. This pass has a fancy front. Very Good condition.
Round Bottom glass - NYNH&H RR New Haven Railroad round bottom 4" tall passenger car drinking glass. Why are they round? The idea was to discourage theft. This style of glass pre-dates sanitary codes that were introduced in 1907 and after WWI. The railroad name is in cast lettering across the bottom on the outside of the glass. You see the name correctly as you look into the glass. This New Haven version has nine flutes that come 1/2 way up the sides. Excellent condition.
Badge - St. Albans Street Railway Conductor #4 Saint Albans Street Railway - Conductor Hat Badge. This Vermont badge is all metal with a high dome with the name spelled out. The occupation is across the bottom and the #4 is in the center. The badge has a nickel finish and also has some fancy filigree. The number 4 is very ornate. The maker is H. F. Leland of Worcester, Mass. There are lots of scratches on the surface, however, this is a rare piece. Good condition.
| 144* | Lehigh Old Company's Double Sided Porcelain Coal Sign - nice metal frame A very nice framed sign. The sign measures 20 1/2" by 10 1/2". The frame stands 41" tall and has very sharp, pointed steel legs that get pushed into the ground. Normally you see one side of a sign like this and then you turn it over and there is some damage. Both sides of this sign are outstanding. It does not have a bad side! Great color and finish. There is one hanging tab (for a dealer name) missing from one side. Not a big deal. Excellent condition |
Poster - Switzerland Rigi Bahn Rigi - Swiss Travel Poster, dated season of May 1, 1906. Rigi via Arth-Goldau measures 22 3/4" by 31". Currently mounted on linen and also in shrink wrap on foamcore board. Very colorful image of Rail route from Zurich to Arth-Goldau via Zug. Lower right corner has Rigi rack railway scene "Krabelwand". The timetable and text are in French. The printer's marking reads, "Polygraphisches Instutut A. G. Zurich". I believe this size poster is called a half sheet. The upper left margin has some bubbling, there is some minor scratching to the text under the work Zurich on the stylized map. Good condition with great color.
Badge - Rochester Syracuse & Eastern Railroad Motorman #1 Rochester Syracuse & Eastern Railroad Motorman Badge. This is a celluloid badge made by Heeren Brothers. This is badge #1. The badge measures 4 1/4" by 1 3/4". Excellent condition.
Key - "W&N RR" tapered barrel "W&N RR" T. Slaight made switch key. Also has control number "475" on front with an "S" for switch. This key could be from the Worcester & Nashua or the Wilmington & Northern (or other road). There is not enough material out there to guarantee what line this key came from. The bow is bent at the hilt and the barrel has been squished down in one place. Fair condition.
Silver - Boston & Maine RR 1 1/2 Pint Covered Casserole This is a big piece. The main dish has the B&M "Arrow" logo and it also has a removable lid. The base plate measures 7" in diameter and has a food well diameter of 4 1/2". The base plate has an "MCRR" (Maine Central) backstamp. The base plates have never been top marked. The lid has a groove to hold a ladle. The Arrow side logo on the main dish is in excellent condition. There is no damage anywhere to this piece. I think the MEC base plate is OK because these two roads used all of the same stuff under joint control. The B&M and MEC operations were tightly bound. Excellent condition.
Pass - 1893 Bristol Railroad (Vermont) This is a 6.2 mile Vermont shortline that shared officers with the Rutland but had its own operations. I believe that they ran until the Great Depression killed them in 1930. Very Good condition.
| 150* | Poster framed BRT Color Brotherhood certificate Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen - Framed poster. This is a colorful 25" by 31" framed piece. The poster has various brotherhood scenes The BRT wheel logo is prominent on the bottom edge. The frame is modern era metal and a nice black mat makes the poster pop in the frame. Very good condition. |
Lock - Boston & Maine "LS" Lowell System - Sherburne "B&M RR LS S" stands for Boston & Maine Railroad - Lowell System - Switch. This lock is operated by a standard Boston & Lowell Switch key. This lock post dates the 1889 takeover of the Boston & Lowell by the Boston & Maine. The surface shines like crazy. Somebody polished this lock. There is NO use with minor scratches from kicking around in a box. The Sherburne hallmark has the standard broken "R" so it looks like ShePburne. All pins were machined off with real precision. The dust cover is strong and the shackle works fine. I used the Bohannan B&L key listed elsewhere in this auction to trip it open. Excellent condition.
New Haven Railroad - Peter Gray Switch Lamp New York New Haven & Hartford Railroad - Peter Gray switch lamp. NYNH&HRR bold stamping on top plate. Standard cookie cutter top with 4 lenses. (2) green and (2) red for main line use. The base has the skirted hood. The door hinge works fine. There is an old hole drilled in one side panel and one red lens is just glued in over the mounting hood. The restoration of this lens is not as simple as you might think. It still displays very well. The oval Gray marking is Gray & Sons so it's 20th Century construction. Fair condition.
Silver - Grand Trunk Railway creamer Made by Toronto Silver (I believe a subsidiary of International Silver). Very clean handled creamer with a bold backstamp. It stands 2 1/4" tall. Very minor dings, Very Good condition.
Boston & Maine Railroad Brasstop Bellbottom lantern with a red cast barrel globe Boston & Maine Railroad - 6" Brasstop Bellbottom lantern with a red cast barrel globe. This frame has a ratchet down top to secure the globe. The brass cap has some dents not shown in the picture. The frame has not been cleaned but should be nice when that work is done. There is light pitting and surface rust that is the kind that you like to see on this older frame. The bell has a standard F. O. Dewey marking that was hard to photograph. The font is solid and the burner is a high top beehive model with a little denting. The Globe is a very nice 6" flashed (thin layer of red glass applied to the inside of the globe) with minor flea bits to the rims. This is a tough globe to get in a ratchet down frame. They are usually all chipped up from hard use. There is some cloudiness to the globe. Very Good condition.
Lock - Boston Clinton & Fitchburg railroad - Boston Clinton & Fitchburg Railroad Switch Lock with "S" designation - made by Williams & Page Co., Boston. This Massachusetts line only existed from 1867 - 1876. This line was absorbed by the Old Colony and then ended up in the New Haven. This lock has very strong markings. The shackle was replaced with a steel shackle at some point in its like. Note the extra pin in the pivot rivet. The key opening is a reverse "9" and the dust cover has a very tight spring. The shackle spring is strong too. This lock comes with its original clevis and several links of original hand forged chain. Very Good condition.
Cheshire Railroad Brass Baggage Tag VT / Boston 1 3/4" by 2 1/4" large "Thomas 1867 patent" Brass Baggage tag. The shell is brass and marked for the Cheshire Railroad. The insert is cardstock which is harder to get than the brass inserts. This insert is marked for travel between Boston and Hartland, Vermont. The insert also clearly states Fitchburg (Boston) and Hartland (Vermont Central). This tag pre-dates the 1874 name change to Central Vermont. The Cheshire shell is numberd 5267. An uncommon piece and in Very Good condition.
Fitchburg Railroad - 1886 depot timetable Fitchburg depot timetable poster - Dated June 20, 1886. Measures 27" by 37". Has full schedules for all Fitchburg lines: main line to North Adams, Marlboro, Winchendon, Greenville, Stage Coach connections. This type of schedule was placed into a wooden frame at all depots..There is very slight browning on the edge. This timetable is 124 years old. Very Good condition.
Boston & Maine Railroad - Wax Sealer "Gorham" New Hampshire Gorham, New Hampshire is the last Boston & Maine branch built. The reason was the paper mills up in Berlin. They couldn’t let the Grand Trunk have all of that business. This sealer has a smaller than average head. It is just 1" in diameter. The collar between the wood and the head is either tin or nickel plated and not brass. The wooden handle is dark. Excellent condition.
Glass - Boston & Maine cast Juice Glass This is a small juice glass that measures 3" tall and has a base diameter of 1 3/4". It has BOSTON & MAINE RAIL ROAD spelled out in raised lettering on the bottom. For some reason they split the word "rail road." The lettering is backwards from the bottom but correct as you view the bottom while drinking out of the glass. This glass has some chips off of the bottom. This is not a common item. Fair condition.
New York & New England - White Train paperweight This is not a common item. There are only a few of these known to exist. A glass paperweight that measures: 4" by 2" by 3/4" thick. The White Train is the prominent lettering. The New York & New England Railroad logo is center left. They claim to have Royal Buffet Smokers and Dining Cars. There is a maker on the reverse that is impossible to read but the word Syracuse is clear at the bottom of the stamp. There are a few flakes off of one side but no bad damage. Again - this is rare. Dates to 1895 or earlier. A nice New Haven predecessor advertising piece. Good condition.
4 Older Railroad guides and timetables This is a group of earlier timetables and guides: (1) 1865 Vermont Central Railroad guide to the West, stapled folder with loose cover, folding map, nice interior - Fair (2) New London Northern single sheet timetable from 1870, map on reverse side - Fair, (2) Portland & Ogdensburg Railroad cardstock timetables 12/22/1875, 7/30/1877 - both Very Good.
Boston & Maine Dietz Vesta Lantern with Green etched B&MRR globe Standard Dietz Vesta with a build date (S code) of S-10-26. The Boston & Maine name is completely spelled out. This is standard for pre-1930s B&M Vesta lanterns. For some reason a prior owner painted the very top silver. I know guys do this to hide the corrosion that takes place when this type of lantern has been used and the very top gets pitting and discoloration from the heat of the flame. Not a big deal. The metal is exceptionally clean with that aside. The real find on this one is the B&MRR etched green globe. This is a legit etching that I will guarantee. The B&M had a few different etching styles. This one with the "RR" included is an earlier style. The globe has some old gunk that didn't completely come off in one cleaning. This is a very nice lantern. Excellent condition.
China - Boston & Albany Railroad - "Berkshire" pattern celery dish Boston & Albany Railroad - 11" by 5" celery dish in the "Berkshire" pattern. The logo and edge piping are in Excellent condition. There is some age spotting on the top and the food well has lots of pimples from the manufacturing process. It has an older OPCo (Syracuse) back mark with an embossed diamond shaped date code that I can't make out. The diamond codes are early. Very Good condition.
| 164* | Pennsylvania RR - metal gate sign This is a heavy steel 30" by 13" Pennsy gate sign in Tuscan red and gold paint. The condition is near mint. This is a standard Pennsy design with an additional lip on the end for hanging and another extension with the number "26" in small lettering. The destinations are New York over Boston on both sides. Probably from Philadelphia (based on destinations and their distances). Excellent "like new" condition. |
Rutland Railroad - Earthenware Ink Bottle Unusual "Copy Ink" bottle with a paper label that clearly reads "RUTLAND RR Co" and then has the New York Central Lines oval logo. This is the only one of these that I have ever seen or heard of. There is liquid in the bottle. An old cork is holding it in. The bottle measures almost 8" tall. The paper label measures about 3" by 4". The glaze was not applied perfectly, some of the side was not glazed. No chips, cracks or other damage. Good condition with some wear to the label.
Lock - "CCRR" Cape Cod, Colorado Central, etc. "CCRR" stamped Bohannan brass lock. CC could be Cape Cod, Colorado Central, etc. The first "C" may be a "G" but that would mean Gulf Coast and this lock clearly pre-dates that line. I have included a view of the key opening. This lock comes with its original clevis and several links of hard forged chain. The Bohannan number is "87" and it also has an "S" for switch. There is some use and darker spots. The dust cover spring is strong but the shackle seems locked up. It needs a good soak. Good condition.
Peter Gray paper shipping label 5" round paper shipping label from "Peter Gray & Sons Manufacturing, Cambridge Mass". The center has beautiful artwork of Peter Gray tinware including: tall oiler, teapot torch, oil can, Etc. This piece is in a hard plastic protective shell. The pics were taken at an angle to remove glare. This is a great advertising piece and not common. Never seen another. The condition is Excellent. There are some signs of glue on the reverse from use but the front is crisp and clear.
Hat - Maine Central Station Agent - older notch top on older hat Old complete Maine Central Station Agent hat badge on a older "square bill" style hat. The Maine Central converted to Rectangular badges by the 1920s so this badge pre-dates that time. The occupation has larger "S" and "A" lettering. The hat has some wear but for the age it's good. This is a Winter weight wool hat with a screen mesh vent hole on the very top. The hat also has the correct intertwined MCRR side buttons. The hat size is 6 3/4. Good condition.
New Haven Railroad - Gate Sign "Bay State" Wonderful vinyl gate sign for the New Haven "Bay State" named train. Measures 25" wide by 72" long. The destination names only come down about 5 feet. These signs were done for major locations: (Boston, New York, New Haven. They were kept rolled up and then unfurled and placed right at the gate so travelers would get to their correct train. This sign has a train number (184), day (Sun) and time (9:30) painted on one end of the reverse side so that employees could identify the various signs in storage. This sign shows the major stops and connections. This particular sign is in fabulous condition. It shows little use and it is not peeling or brittle. These signs are often found in tough condition. Not this one. Excellent condition.
Passes (4) New London Northern: 1880-1895 A group of 4 New London Northern passes from 1880-1895. The NLN was a Central Vermont predecessor that operated in Connecticut and Massachusetts. (1) 1880 Very Good, (2) 1881 Very Good, (3) 1882 Good, (4) 1895 Good but glue back.

| 177* | Wooden depot "Bulletin Board" older arch top with "BA&A Bulletins" in old white paint on black board Buffalo Arcade & Attica Railroad - Wooden "Public Notices" board. This tombstone shaped wooden sign was used by the railroad for public notices. The BA&ARR name is in an arc across the top. The sign measures 23" by 37 1/2". There is a flat board border that is contoured to fit the curved top. There is some ghosting where the paint looks newer (where the notices would be posted). The BA&A only existed as this name for a few years: 1894-1917. This type of sign would better fit the earlier years. There is some separation of the edging board from the top edge. There is also some border wood loss on the bottom edge. Still Very Good condition overall. |
China - Maine Central Railroad - "Kennebec" soup plate 9" Maine Central - 9" diameter soup plate. The top logo is clear. There is an old OPCo date code (impression in a diamond) so it pre-dates the printed Syracuse date codes . Way above average for the incised date code pieces that exist. Excellent condition.
New York Central - Gate Sign "Empire Service" New York Central Railroad "Empire Service" vinyl gate sign. Measures 25" wide and 65" long. The orange background color was painted onto black vinyl. This sign had a couple of changes applied to it. This was often done when schedules or connections changed. They didn't bother to paint a new sign, they painted over the existing signs. This sign has it's important data painted on the reverse side. It says "Emp Serv" and an old time of 8:30 or 9:30 was painted over and 10:30 PM was added. The front has destinations and connections even mentioning the Delaware & Hudson by name. There is a line for Albany - Schenectady that was removed and then added back. Chicago is the big name with other connections for: Erie, Ashtabula, Montreal etc. The orange paint at the top has started to peel a little bit. The top sleeve for mounting shows definite wear. Very nice craftsmanship on the painting. Very Good condition.

The detail is good. Excellent condition. |
Boston & Maine RR - Engine style cut fixed globe lantern Boston & Maine Railroad - Fixed globe lantern. Has standard line cutting B&M RR initials. The globe, like all cut fixed globes, is free blown (no mold seams). The base has 6 point star intakes and star over diamond over star vents. The top has a conical vent and there is a very old repair of wire to reinforce the bail onto the top assembly. This is not a big deal and is probably a period repair. The bail is a flat band. The glass has wonderful swirl lines. The font is a glass model with a tin collar and a small flat wick. This lantern comes complete with its original brass nut that is used to keep the top screwed onto the base. I will remove this for the auction inspection because some nummy will over-tighten it and crack the globe. This is a 140+ year old lantern.
China - New Haven Railroad "Merchants" Large 9 3/4" Grill Plate This is the largest size New Haven Railroad "Merchants" pattern plate. It is almost 10" in diameter. It is big and heavy. This plate has the classic map of Southern New England with the whale, ship, forest and a streamlined I-5 class 4-6-4 locomotive hauling two passenger cars across the front. This plate has the classic Buffalo China backstamp. There is minimal use. Very Good condition.

This group is a Carousel of 140 in a 140 capacity holder. All are identified: Location, Locomotive, Train ID. This group seems to all date from 1971-1979 and all seem to be from the Boston North Shore. Lots of Boston & Maine ALCO locomotives. Very Good condition. |
Boston & Maine Railroad Reliable lantern with red cast globe Boston & Maine Railroad - outstanding Adams & Westlake "Reliable" lantern with red cast globe. This is one of the nicest B&M Reliables that I have ever seen. It's a common style of frame but not in this condition. The frame is great. The removable smoke deflector and globe spring are discolored but all of the tinned pieces are great. It's worth noting that the twisted wire wick raiser is original to the last Reliables produced. Some bone-head will say that this is not an original burner but I'll guarantee that it is 100%.
Boston & Maine Railroad - Wax Sealer "Barrington" New Hampshire Barrington, New Hampshire is on the Wilton branch on the way to Elmwood. This is single track country. The head is 1 3/16" in diameter. The handle has a Dimond hallmark on one end. The hallmark is hard to read but it's there. Excellent condition.
1868 Presentation Silver Tray B&P RR A very early post Civil War era presentation tray believed to be from the Boston & Providence Railroad. There are other B&P Railroads but the year is key. The Baltimore & Potomac went under in 1866. Perhaps the name "L. Cole and the date of April 30, 1868" will help someone do the appropriate research to nail this piece down. This presentation piece is 138 years old. There is no maker's mark on the back. The tray is silver plated base metal. This is often referred to as Meriden Britannia by one Connecticut maker. The tray measures 16" by 12" with extensions for the handles. The handles are Grecian heads in relief and were applied to the tray. There is significant silver loss which is typical of the early plating on presentation pieces. There are no dings, dents or major damage. Good condition.
China - Boston & Maine RR "Minuteman" plate 11" plate This is the largest round size Northern New England piece of china known to exist. The "Minuteman" pattern post dates the "Bar Harbor" pattern and was made by OPCo (Syracuse china). This piece has a backstamp and date code of "I-7". The Kenmoor pattern refers to the border pattern. Both the B&M and Baltimore & Ohio had the standard stock pattern of Kenmoor customized with their respective logos at 12:00. Pieces with the logo are from the actual railroad dining cars. This plate shows minimal knife marks and the back is super. Very Good condition.

The casting is 1/2" thick. It is heavy! The front HRR plate adds weight to the whole thing. There are traces of gold paint on the HRR. It measures 12" tall, 8 1/2" across the top and 7 1/2" across the bottom. The sides are 9" deep to the back.
