Lot #485 - 7 Brass Passenger Revenue Audit tags
This is a group of 6 brass revenue tags
from Syracuse and an additional audit tags from Detroit to corporate offices
on Lexington Avenue in New York. The Syracuse tags have "NYCRR"
stamped above the strap opening. They are all uncleaned showing some
tarnish. This type of tag was used by the Passenger Revenue Department of
the New York Central Railroad. Most measure 5" by 2 1/2". They are
thick, heavy brass. They weight in at about 7 1/2 oz each. That means that 2
weigh almost a pound. These tags were used on canvas mail bags to transport
passenger revenue information so that audits could be performed at
centralized locations.
