Lot #450 - 3 Brass Passenger Revenue Audit tags from Indiana

 

arl22 Railroad New York Central  Size 2 are 5" by 2 1/2"  Condition Excellent This is a group of 3 brass revenue tags from Indiana. These tags are:  (1) Ticket Agent South Bend, Ind - Auditor Passenger Revenue, Detroit, Michigan #62  (2) Ticket Agent Gary, Indiana - Auditor Passenger Revenue, Detroit, Michigan #66  (3) Baggage Agent Indianapolis, Ind - Auditor Passenger Accounts, Detroit, Michigan #142.  Two are tarnished. The Indianapolis tag has "NYCRR" stamped above the strap opening. This type of tag was used by the Passenger Revenue Department of the New York Central Railroad. Most measure 5" by 2 1/2". They are thick, heavy brass. They weight in at about 7 1/2 oz each. That means that 2 weigh almost a pound. These tags were used on canvas mail bags to transport passenger revenue information so that audits could be performed at centralized locations.
