Lot #439 - 6 "Sample" Passes from the East

Railroad Vary
Size close to 4" by 2 1/2"
Condition Fair - VG

This group of passes has 6 sample printings. Samples were made to verify the layout, color, printing size and other features. The railroad would request samples annotate them and then ask for changes. Samples are interesting because they show what might have been. They are often odd sizes and they often have blank backs. The railroads that requested them often "hole punched" them so that they could not be used. This group includes:

(1) Youngstown - Sharon Railway and Light Company NJ - no date, blank reverse

(2) 1899 West Shore Railroad - date on reverse, one hole punch

(3) Jamestown Westfield & Northwestern Railroad - over-sided with 1980 reproduction printer reference on reverse

(4) Pittsburgh Shenango & Lake Erie (B&LE) - glue corner stains on reverse

(5) Gettysburg & Harrisburg - South Mountain RR - Gettysburg Monument vignette - 2 hole punch

(6) Cumberland Valley 1870 - extra clean

Condition varies, please see the pictures.
