Lot #334 - 7 sample & unissued Passes
This group of passes has 7 sample
printings. Samples were made to verify the layout, color, printing size and
other features. The railroad would request samples annotate them and then
ask for changes. Samples are interesting because they show what might have
been. They are often odd sizes and they often have blank backs. The
railroads that requested them often "hole punched" them so that
they could not be used. This group includes: (1) Columbus Hocking Valley & Toledo
- no date, blank reverse (2) Missouri Pacific 1884 - glue to
corners on reverse (3) Pittsburg & Lake Erie 1880 -
ornate glue to corners on reverse, 5 hole punches (4) St Louis Bridge & Tunnel 1885 -
blank reverse (5) Toledo St Louis & Kansas City
1886 - one hole punch (6) St Louis & St Paul Packet Co 1885
- boat vignette, printed on light paper (7) White Water Railroad 1888 - printed
on light paper with large green border, punch on border Condition varies, please see the pictures.
