Lot #301 - Dressel 1893 Patent Brasstop Oil Headlight
This headlight stands 19" tall. It
has two hanging mount tabs that come off of the back. The basic
"box" or body is 9" wide with a depth of 8". The ornate
brasstop has not been polished and has a nice dark patina. The brasstop has
some spits and dents. It is still unusual. The bail is a wooden handle on a
steel wire. The door is a fancy dome top with a curve that is no small feat
to manufacture. The inside of the door has a brass tag with DRESSEL over
RAILWAY LAMP WORKS over NEW YORK. The oil pot and burner are missing the
door latch works fine. It has 4 heavy steel fittings as feel. Not terribly
heavy. The brass patent date tag reads: "PAT OCT 24 '93". It is
mounted above the 8" diameter lens. The clear lens has a brass
retaining ring and many dings and pit marks. The lens has not major chips
and no cracks. This is a fancy earlier headlight from small locomotive,
street railway or trolley. The black paint is original. Overall Good
condition for its age.
