Lot #289 - "B&M RR LS S" Boston & Maine Railroad Lowell System Switch Key

 

ky24 Railroad Boston & Maine Railroad Lowell System  Size 2" long   Condition Good This is a longer than average Sherburne tapered barrel key that is not the standard Boston & Lowell bit. It is probably special purpose or from a branch line of the B&L. This key dates to the 1889 takeover of the Boston & Lowell by the Boston & Maine. It clearly has an "S" at 6:00 on the front so it was a Switch bit of some kind. The barrel has a ding but it's not crushed. This is an unusual Sherburne key.
