Lot #220 - 4 Michigan Brass Revenue Audit tags

 

arl27 Railroad New York Central  Size 5" by 2 1/2"  Condition Excellent This is a group of 4 brass revenue tags from Michigan. These tags are:  (1) Ticket Agent Jackson, Mich - W. G. Reynolds, Lexington Ave, New York, NY #27 - has some glued on paper that can be removed (2) Ticket Agent Kalamazoo, Mich - W. G. Reynolds, Lexington Ave, New York, NY #32 (3) Ticket Agent Detroit, Mich - W. G. Reynolds, Lexington Ave, New York, NY #92 (4) Ticket Agent Ann Arbor, Mich - W. G. Reynolds, Lexington Ave, New York, NY #47.  This type of tag was used by the Passenger Revenue Department of the New York Central Railroad. Most measure 5" by 2 1/2". They are thick, heavy brass. They weight in at about 7 1/2 oz each. That means that 2 weigh almost a pound. These tags were used on canvas mail bags to transport passenger revenue information so that audits could be performed at centralized locations.
