Railroad Central Vermont
Size 5 1/2" tall globe
Condition Excellent

This lantern was nicely cleaned and has an even, dark patina. The top has the "long, straight leg" Star Headlight CVRR lettering stamped into the lid. The Central Vermont changed from Railroad to Railway in 1899. This lantern clearly pre-dates the name change. The frame is not marked for Star Headlight. The globe retainer assembly is on a lid ratchet mechanism. This is used to tighten the spring down on the globe. The bell is a twist off style that takes the standard 5 1/2" tall extended base style globe. The bell has ice spikes on the bottom. The bell may actually be from an Adams & Westlake (short fount collar). The fount is glass and a nice brass burner is present. If it's a replacement bell, it was done a very long time ago or the patina would not match so well. The globe is an unmarked clear 5 1/2" tall, extended base. It fits the frame fine. Marked extended base CV globes are hard to find.
