This is a group of 4 brass revenue tags. These tags were re-used by the audit department. They 2 were originally Syracuse and years ago somebody covered the original stamped information with index cards and scotch tape. They are:

(1) Ticket Agent Syracuse, New York - W. G. Reynolds, Lexington Ave, New York, NY #34

(2) Ticket Agent Syracuse, New York - W. G. Reynolds, Lexington Ave, New York, NY #36

(3) Mystery - covered over - be the first to find out what it is!

(4) Mystery - covered over - be the first to find out what it is!

They are all uncleaned and could be polished up to a brassy shine. This type of tag was used by the Passenger Revenue Department of the New York Central Railroad. Most measure 5" by 2 1/2". They are thick, heavy brass. They weight in at about 7 1/2 oz each. That means that 2 weigh almost a pound. These tags were used on canvas mail bags to transport passenger revenue information so that audits could be performed at centralized locations. All of these tags are from one collection.
