Lot #131 - Hartford Providence and Fishkill Switch lock
The is a very unusual brass lock. It has
no maker's marking. It is very strongly stamped "HP&F RR" on
the shackle. The clevis is a very old design. The dust cover is very thin
and it is not sprung. I don't think it was ever sprung because of how thin
it is. The clevis has a very old hand forged chain attached. The shackle
pivot pin looks like it was probably replaced. I don't know what a HP&F
switch or Car key pattern looks like. One picture shows the key opening.
This is an interesting Central New England / New Haven predecessor. Good
condition.
