Lot #61 - Framed Manchester Locomotive Company builder's photo

Boston & Lowell Railroad "Monarch"

Railroad Boston & Lowell
Size 24" by 18"
Condition good

The Monarch was a 4-6-0 style wheel arrangement locomotive. The Manchester Works was merged into ALCo (American Locomotive Company) in the early 1900s. The Boston & Lowell was merged into the Boston & Maine in 1889. There is a number on the headlight that might be #81. Early locomotives were named rather than numbered. This is an indication of how many early locomotives existed. This picture has a frame size of 24" by 18" and an image size of 16 1/2" by 10". There is a vertical "pine burn" right down the center. This is pitch in the pine backing board bleeding though onto the print from the back. The frame is a nice, glossy wood. Good to Fair condition with no real damage other than the vertical discoloration.
